THE WAIOTAHI CREEK.

To those whose business does not carry them to this district, now becoming one of considerable importance as regards its population, the. great improvements which have been worked of late would be really surprising, and they speak well for the Thames, upon which, according to the distempered 1 opinion of impatient ones, progress has entirely stopped. There is now a well-formed and metalled road extending from the foot of the creek in Campbell-street to a short distance beyond the Waiotahi school, and preparations are apparently being made to carry it further oil This road is a great boon to the inhabitants in the lower part of. the Creek, but there are other road works being prosecuted in a manner which indicates a determination to effect sterling improvement. A pathway of considerable width has. been carried over the hill to the Eureka, being well made and laid with a 'mixture of stone and mullock in anticipation of the approaching wet season, and the same road has been carried up the hill on tho other side of the creek immediately opposite, being connected by a bridge sufficiently substantial for all present demands. A system of drainage has been introduced, and water pipes have been laid, and, for the convenience of residents, standpipes have been erected at short distances up the main road. All who feel an interest in the progress of the place, as well as in the comfort of their fellow townsmen, will be glad to hear that such excellent provisions as these have been made in this locality— not only for the - general amelioration of the condition of the people, but against the influences of the winter season which is now fast approaching, and which, as. usual/will overtake us with " the inaudible and noiseless foot of time " while we ire yet congratulating ourselves upon the friendly warmth of the summer sun.
