TOOKEY COMPANY.
A visit to. the mine this morning has convinced me that this company have still implicit confidence in the future of their mine, or are determined so fully to prospect the ground as to leave no chance of gold existing in the mine without it being found by them. The 400 feet level being driven north, at tne joint expense of the Tookey and Albion Companies, has advanced past the line of the winze being sunk from the 300 feet level, and a rise commenced from the line to connect with, the winze. _ The mam level is being pushed north along the line of No. 1 and 2 reefs united. The drive on the same level south has been extended 201 feet, having passed through 2 main lodes, 3 leaders and 2 slides, in that distance. Crosscutting is being assiduously carried on in the 300 feet level, and in an intermediate level between the 200 and 300 feefc level. Throughout the whole of the workings well*defined lodes present themselves, showing that the lodes descend unchanged. This is a favorable indication and leads to the belief that gold may be found at lower depths.
