ST. PATRICE'S DAY.

I*'"' This has been about the quietest St. |-f Patrick's day .we remember* to have seen on the 3 names. In former years there have been races and other opportunities for amusement. This year, with the exception of excursions to Ohinemuri, nelhing has been done to provide amusement or to make St. Patrick s Day a people's holiday. The members of the Hibernian Society went in procession to St. Francis' Church to-day to hear mass ; after the celebration of which Father Castagnon delivered a short panegyric on the life of St. Patrick. There was a large attendance at the chapel, in addition to the Hibernian Society. The principal shops in the liorough were closed, which gave the streets a . holiday appearance, and a good number of persons visited Tararu and Parawai Gardens. Otherwise the 17th March this year was as unlike other St. Patrick's Days on the Thames as Sunday to Saturday. •
