Auckland, This day. Mr W. T. Swan* M.P.C., the first member of the Assembly for the Thames Goldfields, died suddenly yesterday., He had been out during the morning, and returned to his lodgings shortly after 2 o'clock, where he was seized with an apoplectic fit, and expired 'at 10 o'clock at night. Sir George Grey is expected in town to-morrow. He will probably address the Thames electors .on Friday; the Auckland electors afterwards. Poet Chalmees, This day. The first stone of the Port Chalmers j "Waterworks Heservoir was laid at Sawyer's Bay yesterday afternoon, by the Mayor and Mr McKinnon, in the presence of the Superintendent, Mayor of Dunediri, and a large assemblage of spectators. A silver trowel, silvermounted mallet, and level were presented to the Mayor by the engineer and contractor for the works. Wellington, This day. Sir George Arney is now in Wellington, en route for Auckland.. . The Hon. Eobert Campbell of Otago, is a passenger by the Wellington, en route to England via San Francisco.
