MR MACKAY'S REMARKS.

Exactly at 10 o'clock Mr Muckuy mounted upon tho long table with ouo foot upon the fence, which fact was greeted with cheers, and in a very few word, said he had as much pleasure in stating to them as they had in listening to tho announcement, that tho field would now be declared open for goldmining. He hoped that all their expectations would be realized, and, he now, as agent for the General Government, handed over the control of it to Captain Fraser, who had been appointed Warden. (Cheers.) Several voices said a better man could not have been selected. Mr Mackay handed to Captain Fraser the Gazette with the Proclamation, and jumped off the table amid great cheering.
