OHINEMURI.
(Per favor of the Evening Star.) Sir,—l am a.digger in the most qualified sense of the word, and, although I have been for many years through the Colonies, pursuing that occupation, never, until the present, did there come under my, notice . such maladministration of public trust as I have ebserved since I have been here. X said, I have been a digger for many years; it is true, and although many persons in my position would not..like;to make such a boast, nevertheless, I do so, and assert that I have always discharged my duties therewith, both as a man and a citizen. So far, as-a digger,-I have nothing to find fault with in reference to ho.w things have been carried on here; but, as a man and a citizen, I not only object to, but most emphatically protest against the manner in which the Government officials in connection with the Luna discharge their patronage, and so philanthropicalJy. Why should I or others, as. citizens of a supposed free country, be called upon to gratuitously supply with high life and good living every itinerant biped who assumes to make his living by such a questionable, or, as it may be, unquestionable occupation? Why should industrious citizens be called upon, or, in other words, be compelled, directly or indirectly, to contribute to the support or maintenance of persons who, following theirWn lucrative employments, scruple not to revel in the sweets of authoritative munificence? Why, 1 repeat again, should those pure and honest-minded men be tolerated to prey, like vultures on a lifeless carcase, upon the public, through either the' pusillanimity or corruption of the Government or its officials ? Enough on this subject; but, if required, I will most willingly particularise those matters referred to;—I havje,:&c, Viatob. Ohinemuri, February 17. [Our- correspondent might have been more explicit without waiting for an invitation. ~ If aa abuse exists, expose it. — Ed.] ,
