The Provincial Government Offices at Auckland a»d the Thames -were closed today, in consequence of the death of His Honor the Superintendent, and will remain closed until iMonday next. The funeral of the Superintendent -will take place on Saturday at four o'clock.

Mb Sheehan arrived here this morning per I Southern Cross from Napier. On it being known by him that the Superintendent was dead, be placed himself in communication with the General Government authorities at Ohinsrnuri. Amongst other things he pointtd iout the advisability of allowing the Luna to convey those who were desirous of attending; 'the funeral in Auckland. We have no doubt [but his suggestions will be acted on, and if so, |a large number of.Mr Williamson's friends ,will have an opportunity of being present to 'pay the last tribute of respect to him whom they so much esteemed.

I We hare reeeiTed sereral numbers of New [Zealand end Auckland Provincial Government Gazettes. The appointment of Alexander Hume and George H. Latnont to ba auditors of the sKauaeranpa Highway District is notified. A number of notices under the Native Lands Act of 1873 appear. New rpgulations under "The Government Insurance and Annuities Ac*, 1874," are published in the New Zealand Gazette. One set applies to the Religious Ministers Pensions Table, including table of premiums payable during the whole life of assured to secure £100 payable at death. Under.the other regulations it is provided that the Industrial Insurance rules shall apply,^ anythisg to the. contrary in such regulations notwithstanding, to members of the Society known as the Independent Order of Good Templars, in New Zealand, whether registered v: der the Friendly Societies Act or not.

i Rktubvb showing the following particular? are published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 4th insfc, for the quarter ended 31sfc December, 1874:— Return of the Talue of. imports at the several ports of New Zealand—'total, £1,859,899: Return of exports—total, £773,181; Return of the quantity and value jof exports ; Return of the number, tonnage' and crews of vessels entered inwards and outwards. The imports show an increase [over the corresponding quarter of 1873 ; the exports a decrease; the shipping returns also »how an increase. The quarterly st»t«mentn of the average amount of liabilities and asiets of the several banks doing business in the Colony are published in the New Zealand G-azette j also a general statement of the liabilities and assets of the banks in the Colony for the! same period ; quarter ended 31st December, 1874 It is mentioned as a probable thing that Captain Fergussoa, cousin of, and late, aide-de-camp to Sir James Fergusson, will run for the Manawatu seat in the House of Representatives at the next general electron. He will be opposed by the sitting member, Mr Walter Johnstone. The New Zealand Tablet, with that delicacy of taste which always characterises such announcements, lays:—" The Duke of Abercorn, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, has been appointed High ' Cockalorum* —or some* thing of that sort—of the Irish Freemasons." What a cry it would make if some journal were to announce—in the same dignified style —" That Archbishop Manning has been appointed 'Head Bottle Washer' to the Catholic Academic." There would be quite as muchsecse in the one announcement as in the other. "X. Y. Z." need not be surprised at the fcwo superintendents of Fire Brigades replying to bis communication through the columns of another paper. If he will refer to his file of the Advertiser, he will find! that although many letters have been refused insertion because it was the 'Tiser's invariable rule not to publish letters in reply to correspondence which had appeared in another paper, the rule has been abrogated wheaever deemed expedient or found convenient.
