WAIOTAHI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
i A meeting of the Committee 'Wat Held on Tuesday evening la*t at Mr Bowe's .. office. Present—Messrs Brodie, O'Haire, Porter, and Sowe (in the chair). , , A number of applications for the headmastership of the school in Waiotahi Creek were, read, and after some discvsr sion on the, subject, Mr Brodie proposed, and Mr Porter seconded a resolution— .. " That Mrs Skeen, who has been assistant; female teacher in the school, be promoted to fill the vacancy." Those gentlemen forcibly pointed out the ability displayed by Mrs Skeen whilst employed in the former capacity.'- . " , Mr O'Haire coincided with, all the remarks which had been made in favour of Mrs Skeen, but strongly objected to her being, appointed to the head-teacher-'., sjiip of the school. He thought tnat.it X was not fair to the ratepayers in thi» locality who had boys from eight *0 tWI : years old going to that school.to hare them placed solely under tjbe control of, a female teacher. Mr u'Haire further, said, if the Committee would take stopt to make, the. Waiotahi School a giru' school he was quite willing that" 'Mrs" ; Skeen should, receive the, appoinbnent proposed! but otherwise, as a membtr of r ;''. the committee, he objected. r ' Shellback School.—A letter was read from Mr •■ Maberly,, head-masteir ( k . the "attention of the committee 1 to ala^a ■; increase of pupils in. his- school, which necessitated the whole' attention of hit female assistant to solely teaching her class, and thereby." caasiog a Tacahoj for a work-mistress for the girls. The pupil teacher, Mr Mason, resigned his office, and it was arranged that thff vacancy should, be filled up as,soon at possible. ■'''■•'■'''
