Sixth Day.

Day. This morning! tit the usual time for commencing the shooting, rain was falling and there was a strong wind blowing. It was therefore decided not to commence till after breakfast, when the 400 yards range (the third in the decisive match for the Infantry Championship) was fired. The scores at this range appear in their 1 proper order. Up to the time of the four hundred range being completed Wilson of Otago was still ahead, his aggregate being 279, Leigh of Auckland (who, we believe, was formerly a member of No. 1 Royals) being 273, or 6 points behind. The next highest were: — Skinner, (Auckland) ... 272 Hoskins, (Thames) ... 270 Blythe, (A.C.) ... ... 267 The interestjwaxed.warm at this stages intensifying as the final decisive ranges came on. At the time we write five rounds of the 500 yards range have been fired, the 400 yards range of the Cavalry sth match having been fired after the Infantry had finished at the same range. It is getting too close to the final contest in these matches to hazard conjectures as to the result. What might appear probable at two o'clock to-day might be re*" duced to a certainty by the time we pub- ; lish. We shall not therefore speculate upon the events, but have confined ourselves to making the scores as complete as possible up till the last. FIFTH CAVALEY MATCH. (I.)' Poelhitz stood highest with an aggregate for She Champion Belt of 108. We now give totals as far as completed.

Mr Foy, photographer, has taken some excellent views of the Parawai Camp, and the Butts. One of the views has, been taken from a position on the western side of the creek, and discloses a beautiful view of the wa^er, the booms, then the flat uppnwhicTti <he» Camp is pitched looks very picturesque, and the long' range of hills in the back ground seem j to make as attractive a picture as could well be wished; The butts are also plainly discernable, and the different squads can be distinctly counted. At the time the, photograph was taken, one of the squads was firing,*and the smoke from the;rifle of the - man shooting appears quite distinct. These views will doubtless be sought for the purpose of sending them home to the old country. They certainly; form a subject which would be very mV terestiug. In England the volunteer; system is very extensive—extending all over the country, and the number of volunteers in Lundon alone is something enormous, as most well know who hjive been in the parent country within the last; five years. There have been very many complaints about the ammunition. The cartridges are nearly all deficient in powderi and this is felt more and more as the representatives get to the long ranges. During dinner hour nothing was talked of but the Championship and the chances of the different fellows who are well up in the aggregates. Bets have been made freely —Hoskins finding backers in spite of his position this morning, which it will be seen he retrieved partly at the 500 yards range.
