THE PIAKO SETTLEMENT.
The gentlemen who are interested in the special settlement at Piako —about which, the Superintendent was questioned during his last visit here—seem to be in good earnest, and will doubtless succeed, when they obtain the land, in forming a good settlement. It is proposed that each man shall receh'e 300 acres, with the option cf taking in another 200 ©n deferred payment, which is an advantage that many will be likely to avail themselves of. A meeting of these gentlemen was held last evening in the Exchange Buildings, Mr Macky presiding. Three gentlemen, namely, Messrs. Gribble. Heron and Reid were elected in room of three who had originally formed part of number, but who hare since settled upon land in Tauranga. It was also decided to inspect the land on Thursday next, and funds were collected for that purpose; when, having instructed the treasurer to take steps to procure a steamer for their conveyance, the meeting dispersed.
