LEGEND OF THE FORGET-ME-NOT.
Along the rirei-'a batiks they itrayed, Two lovers fond and true; The maid was fair with goldeu hair And eyes of azure hue. And in one quietest shady spot, They wandered to and fro ; And one would chaff, and one would laugh, As lovers will, you know. • Bub presently-they paused to gaze Into the placid stream : The back was steep, the water deep, But tranquil as a dream. At length the maiden fair espied A flower of tiny size j And it was blue and pretty, too, Much like (he maiden's eyei "took! look ! " the maiden then exclaimed, With quick excited tone; " I'd feel sweet joy, without alloy, To call that. floWer. my ows." The words had scarcely.passed her lips Ei-s he had left her side i , ■ " This floral raid is for the maid ;• ; Who coon will be my bride.*' Then to the water's edge he sped, Down where the flower grew j And iv las speed, he did not heed His danger. All he knew x ' Was that a wish had been expressed By her—his love he'd proTe. He gained the flower; but in that fcour The maiden lost her love. He slipped ; and sinking'neath the stream, His dark eyes sought one spot 5 He cast the flower upon tho shore, ' And cried, '-Forget me not." —-.JExphange. -
