The arrest of Count" Arnim is generally condemned in German political circles. A painful sensation was caused in Vienna by the publication of a pastoral by the Cardinal Archbishop, charging Germany with endeavouring to extirpate Christianity.
Garabaldi, at the invitation of the Romans, stands to represc nt them. He exhorts electors to vote for persons now political prisoners. Three expeditions have been despatched by Russia against the Turcomans. .Extensive arrests of Internationalists aud war munitions have been made at Florence.
Japan and China are preparing for war, and hare sent large orders to Birmingham.
India and the East. Extensive frauds on the Oriental Bank at Galle have been discovered.
' The investigation re Nona Sahib is proceeding at Cawnpore. The evidence is conflicting. A cyclone occurred at Calcutta —thirty lives lost. Floods have occurred in Southern India, with loss of life and property.
An earthquake occurred at Cabul 7000 lives were lost.
