Ws learn tliafc a ■pecial meeting of the Board of Education is to be held to-day to reconsider the question of amalgamating the school districts. It would appear that the step was decided upon without due consideration, principally on tho representations of the Secretary to the TCauaeranga Committee contained in a private letter to the Secretary of the Board of Education, and the advice of Mr E. J. O'Sullivan, who, during a recent tjsit to the Thames, was informed that the amalgamation would be generally acceptable. The Board of Education have found that they were wrongly informed—that the amalgamation is not satisfactory; and at the meeting to-day it is to be hoped the proclamation amalgamating the districts will be recalled, until such times as the subject can be properly considered. It is manifest that no committee can be appointed to represent the Thames as one district until tome alteration has been made in the mode of election. Until this alteration can be made by the Provincial Council, it would be desirable to leave the school districts as at present defined, and the Committees as existing.
