Melboubne, Dec. 5. The population of the Colony is 803,000.
Governor Ducane left to-day for Englaud per Northumberland. A severe earthquake shock occurred at Gippsland on 30th November, which stopped mining machinery under ground. The shocks lasted over an hour'and a half.
Land in Collins street sold- recently at £400 a foot.
Measles all over the colony. A conference of stock inspectors held in Sydney recommended that the prohibition on the importion of cattle from Europe be rescinded. Flour, £12 10s; wheat, 5s lOd; oats inactive, 5s to 5s 4d.
Sydney.
Owing to adverse vote on the Governor's minute respecting Gardiner's release, Parliament dissolved, and writs have been issued for another election. Education reform is to be a prominent point in the elections. King Cakobau arrived in Sydney as a guest of the Governor, and was accorded an official landing. The Governor presented him with a new yacht in the Queen's name.
