'[ADVEBTISEJtEICT.] (To the, 'Editor of the Evening Star.) MYSELF AND BAIRD. SIR,— You will oblige me and a 'numerous circle of friends by inserting in your valuable paper a few remarks upon the decision in this case, which appears to me to be very oppressive. I was indebted to the p'aintiff the cum of five shillings, which I paid into Court, and defended tbe action •ucceßßfully for the balance, yet I am com-. pelled to pay Mr Brassey, Solicitor, for his attendance (thocgh not subpeeaaed or called), one pound one shilling, to prove I owed the plaintiff the five shillings. I have been informed the Resident. Magistrate has a largo discretion in the allowance to witnesses, and with him rests the optish of disallowing unnecessary witnesses in any case coming before him; bat, apparently, he is blind to all discretion when required to be exercise i in my favor, and I am made to pay cos s, though rot indebted to the plaintiff. Is this holding the ?cales of justice impartially? I-kave your readers to judge, for themselves. It appears to me the action I took again at him tor redress of a severe injury is never to he obliterated from his mind. —I aui, Sir, your obedient Servant. P. K. Donseilt. Grnhamstown, Nov. 30, 1874.
