SOUTH DEVON.
This morning the manager of the above claim informed me that yesterday he had eight pounds weight of specimens crushed at Manning's Battery, and the result proved most satisiactory, being 4 ounces of retorted gold. I may state, en passant, thai these specimens were picked up promiscuously in the process of knocking down stuff, and that, therefore, the inference remains that the general stuff will prove remunerative. The manager also stated that the leader, in its progress of extraction, is looking better and " betterer." I sincerely wish that enterprising and persevering little company all the succefs they deserve, and should this leader carry Well down, there may yet be a hope of a revival of active energy in mining matters on this now neglected part of our field.—[Since the above w«s furnished me, the amount of smelted gold is returned as 3 ounces 18dwts—being within a shade of ■§ an ounce to the pound of stone, and of best quality gold.]
