the Bank of New Zealand. Ai to the other companies, there had been only one represent.".!; ye of the City of 'York present at the interview, and Mr. Jlicks of the City of London had expressed himself to the effect that the City of London would be prepared to do the same as the others.

Cr. Butt thought they were getting on no further. This dilly-dallying waf unfair to the public and contractors. The com? panics seemed to take no more interest. The Mayor said Cr. Butt was scarcely correct, inasmuch as they were now in a position to slate the terms of the contract.

Cr. Macnab said he did not believe the companies were incorporated so as to be legally j ustified in making such road. Cr. Brown moved that if two directors would sign on behalf of the companies, in addition to giviug their personal security, the work be proceeded with. The Mayor said Or. Brown's motion would be a hardship upon the directors.
