We hare been favored with the following copy of minutes taken at the meeting held last night to initiate proceedings for entertaining Mr. John Sheehan, M.H.E., at a banquet. A copy of minutes was shown to the editor of the Thames Advertiser, but a comparison of the latter' 3 local and the minutes will show that the names of two gentlemen connected with this journal have been omitted. It is a matter, of little moment, except as showing the contemptible meanness of which some natures are guilty. We do not for a moment believe that the proprietors ure responsible for the omission; at the same, time we are convinced the omission was intentional. But for the fact that the chairman of the meeting (Mr. Eowe) and several other gentleman who took a prominent part in the proceedings remarked on the absence of the names referred to, we should not have noticed it. They are very naturally indignant that any one could be guilty of such a petty meanness as suppressing two names because they belong to business rivals. A morning paper must be very low before it ?could do such a thing. We do not want to be hard upon anybody, but we can only assume that the elimination of the two names was the work of a person on the Advertiser staff who, in a similar capacity on another morning jour^ nal, was convicted, on his own confession, of—aw indiscretion which brought his employers into disrepute : if we are wrong in-our assumption perhaps the proprietors will put the saddle on the right horse. The following are the minutes referred to: — ,< A meeting of gentlemen interested in entertaining Mr. John Sheehan to a banquet, for his services in connection with the passing of the Waste Lands Act, was held at the Nil Desperanduin H^tel oh Friday, September 18.
