SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR MAURICE POWER.

A meeting of those who wished to open up a subscription list in aid of the unfortunate man Maurice Power, who lost his arm in the Thames Hospital, was held in the Pacific Hotel last evening. Mr. W"m. Eowe was put in the chair, and Mr. Fl Day acted as secretary. The Rev. Father Lonergan expressed an opinion that the subject should be deferred until the conclusion of the Committee's examination; and that a deputation should wait upon His Honor the Superintendent to secure Mr. Power some Government appointment, when greater sympathy would be excited in his behalf. Mr. McIlhone coincided with these ideas. Mr. Renshaw said it was not wise to refer to the matter of investigation at all, and Mr. O'Haire agreed. Mr. Renshaw moved a resolution, which was carried, that a subscription list be opened, and that a committee be formed of the following gentlemen: —Messrs.Rowe,Renshaw, Mahoncy, the Rev. Father Lonergan, Messrs. Grillies, O'Haire, Twohill, Hayes, Oloonan, Day and Robinson, with power to add to their number. Father Lonergan's motion that the Chairman and Messrs. Mcllhone and Benshaw wait upon the Superintendent on Mr. Power's behalf was carried. He furthei: suggested that a subscription should belmade in the room. The following amounts were subscribed:—Rev. Father Lonergan, £2 ; Bey. Father O'Mahoney, £1; Messrs E. Twohill, £5 5s ; Benshaw, £2; Mahoney, £5 5s ; J. Heron, £5 ; P. Hayes, £5; M. O'Haire, £1; W. Robinson, £1; D. Cloonan, £1; The total amount was thus £28125, which will form a good basis upon which: to commence. The meeting then terminated. '
