THE PARAWAI BOARD AND THE CEMETERY.
(To the Editor of the Star.)'
Sib,—rlf the report of the Borough Council proceedings of last night as published in the Advertiser be correct, the Parawai District; Board have made a grand mistake in calling upon the Council to take immediate steps to obtain the £500 voted by the Provincial Council for the Cemetery road and purchase of additional landfor a cemetery. In the first place, the Pacawai Board, if they do their duty, will not allow any interference of the Borough Council with the Parawai District, in which the cemetery is situated. Secondly the co-operation and support of the Borough Council in asking the Government to provide funds for the above mentioned purpose was requested by Parawai upon the understanding that the present cemetery and any additional land purchased should be vested in the Corporation; but upon ; condition that tho management of such • cemetery should be formed, out of the Borough Council and the Parawai Board. The road to the cemetery must still be under the control of the Parawai Board, and I think its engineer should lay out the cemetery. The Borough Council's engineer has quite enough to do in his own district. It seems absurd therefore that the Borough Council should be permitted to exercise any control whatever over the expenditure of the £500 voted by the Provincial Council for cemetery and cametery road purposes within the Parawai district, ana I feel sure that if the matter be properly represented to tho Superintendent, he will not permit so glaring an injustice.—l am, Ac, A Pabawai Ratepayer.
