James Fenton was charged with an offence of this nature by neglecting to clean his premises, situated in Mary and Pollen - streets, Shortland. Defendant pleaded guilty, but said as an-extenuating circumstance that the late heavy rain had caused the nuisance. Mr. Sullen said the nuisance was caused by a lot of decayed vegetables. Defendant was fined 10s and costs. • .
John Hendy was charged that he did neglect to clean his premises, in Pollenstreet Shortland, and pleaded not guilty. John Brook's Mason, Inspector of Nui-
sances for the Borough of Thames, was called to prove the charge, and .deposed that he had visited the defendant's premises on the 2nd, when he found in the back a quantity of matter from which arose a most offensive smell. Defendant when remonstrated with, had admitted that the yard was not clean, but would remedy the matter. The defendant dteniedthe greater part of the witness'evidence. Fined 10s and costs.
