THE NONPAREIL.

'* I visited this mine to-day, arid noticed a marked improvement in many things so far as the management is concerned. It is, so far as the present workings at thelmainlevel are Concerned, well drained and in many places has. been re-timbered. I wish I could speak as favorably of the mine itself, but to tell' the truth, I cannot give a very flattering report of it. The winze that was sunk on what is called the foot wall branch, and from-which so much was expected* is drowned out, and full nearly up to the top with water. ;In the stopes nothing is being dono. A winze has been sunk onltfie leader that I reported to have' been 'cut *under foot in the main level, which is now down thirty feet, but I am informed that -ten feet from the bottom the lode ran. put, arid, from what I could see of the stuff sent up, and the appearance of the way the pick worked below, it is in a hungry kind of clay, but the bottom is as dry as a bone ; and to show the power that clay slides have in this district, this last mentionod winze is ionly .thirty feet; from tho; one, full up with water.. I think that tho reef running out un the dry. winze, is a Jbad sign, as I was in hopes it would have growxras it went down. It may possibly come in again, but I cannot see at present any .likeh'hood of., its doing so., My instructions are, to report' things as I find them., I find it.the best plan. And have done' so in the report '■ I give of :,the Nonpareil mine. On leaving the mine I saw but very little 'addition to the stuff put in the paddock.
