SMOKING IN THEATRES.
(To the Itditor of (be Evbxixo Stai^jl Sib, —I have the, honor to call your^fctention to the abominable and filthy practice of persons smoking, tobacco, in placet of public amusement. The atmosphere of ! the Opera House on Saturday night became simply unbearable to those persons, who, not smoking themselves, had,to bear the annoyance of being suffocated with the fumes of tobacco from a few selfish persons. It was detrimental to the performers, and r it needed a strong lore of music".in the audience to make" them stay in a place where they were exposed to such a nuisance. The Thames is the only, place where smoking in a Theatre is allowed; even in Auckland the man who would light bis pipe at the Opera' would be hooted and put out as a ruffian who was better in the street, than in a place where ladies and, persons of decent habits have assembled. —I am «fee, One Who Lotos Mcaic. -
