i The third annual meeting of the shareholders of the above Society w,as held in j the Mechanics' Institute ~lasV<6vening. Mr. Eenshaw in the chair. GPhe secreI'tary, Mr. Hume, read the minutes of the last annual meeting and tup report and balance sheet. The minutes were confirmed and the = balance sheet adopted. The report having been received several matters therein suggested were discussed. Messrs Eenshaw andF. C.'Dean were elected to the committee,and several alterations in the rules were made, all tend-^ ing to make the business of the Society more popular. The^ following extract from the committee's annual report, will give an idea of the success which has attended the Society's operations:—" Your Committee in presenting the third annual balance ■sheet and report have;much pleasure in drawing attention to the continued favorable state of the Society's business, which' has nearly doubled during the last twelve months. No bad debts have been made, and the whole of the securities are good, safe investments for the amounts advanced upon them. After crediting investing members' accounts with 8 per cent.in- j terest, paying £20 balance of formation expenses, and £62 lls. Id. for management, there remains an additional profit on the three years' business $176195., out of which in accordance with Clause 2, Eule 15, it is proposed to pay a dividend at the rate of 12 per cent, per annum to all investing members who have been in the Society over six months, and carry the balance of £10 6s. 9d. to next year's account." . • ; Mr. Eenshaw and Mr. F. C. Dean were elected to the committee. The Secretary reported that 35 new shares had been taken up since balancing the books, and five fully paid up shares. i
