THAMES SCOTTISH VOLUNTEERS.
— The Thames Scottish~Companj.'gJband^ and Cadets paraded on Thursday evening ,< in uniform, for inspection of arms and ac- ' coutrcments. There was a> large mutter of each, making up a total of about ;_IOO red coats., Captain Murray^ announced that for the future the company would be formed into four squads, each obe'uridvr * their own officers and non-commissioned officers, and in order the more effectually to carry out this* arrangement, the officers sergeants, corporals and lance-ooporals would meet on Mondays and Tuesdays for rudimentary drilL by, each other in, rota- , tion, thereby geUing-accustomed to giving; the words of command and be able more thoroughly to"keep "up the efficiency of" the" company. The men would, uAtii* 3 further orders, drill without rifles, and' 0 get proficient in squad and* company drill previous to the issue of the new sniders promised by Government. It wajs agreed - to hare a church parade-the last Sunday of August, as Honorary Chaplain, - Ker.^ J. Hill, had promised a special sermon for that day. The secretary was instructed to writs, asking the company of the ITaval Brigade and the other volunteer companies on ihc occasion. After .inspection the company had a short march through-,-the town, hoaded by the band playing some excellent music.
