Thomas Gnrvey was charged with being the driYor of a tehicle, and did remain at guch a distance as not to have full control of the horse. Defendant pleaded guilty. His" 'Worship" lot the defendant off on a promise to again become a good templar. BBEACH OF THB POBLIC itEALTH AC f. Jamei Darrow was charged by the Vaccination Officer wilh neglect in not having his child Mary Darrow vaccinated. Defendant said his child had been Vaccinated in March last, but thought ifc had not been registered. E. H. Power said the action had been brought under the 12fch section of the Public Health Act. Mr. Darrow's', defence wat that the child.had been vaccinated, but not by a medical practitioner; he should like to hare the opinion of the Bench as to what a medical practitioner really is. Defendant sworn said—l have a child named E..M. Darrow ; it has been vaccinated. To Mr. Power: The child was vaccinated by some neighbors. My wife had been twice to your office, in office-hours, and you were out. Mr. Power then read sereral extracts from the Public Health Act, also a letter from the Colonial Government requesting a medical certificate in every case in which vaccination had been successfully performed. Mr. Power stated that in many cases vaccination had been performed by old women and. not by a duly qualified medical practitioner. His Worship remarked that vaccination may be performed by an old woman, but the Act distinctly states that a certificate must be obtained arid signed by a duly qualified medical man, that the> vaccination had come to a successful issue. No doubt Mr. Power had brought this case before the Gourt to give publicity to the provisions of the Act. . Mr. Power informed His Worship that was the case. Fined Is, and costs 10s 6d.
