Wbllingtok, Tuesday. . As the p.s. Manawatu was leaving the harbor last night for Wanjjanui she met a brigantine bound inwards. Captain . Griffiths gave ,the order to port the helm, the brigantine then seemed to starboard her helm. The Manawatu stopped and reversed her engines, but before sufficient stern way wag gained the brigantine struck her, carrying away some head gear, top-rails, and. jibstay. The M*nawatu put back for the night, but will probably leave to-morrow. Both vessels < showed lights. The brigantine, the name of which.is unknown, anchored near the Hutt. It is reported she is uninjured. , , The opinion of tho City Council of Wellington wa* nearly unanimous last evening in favor of the memorandum from Christchurch conveying, an abstract of a petition to be presented to the House of Reprsentatives, that fees arising from , licenses granted within corporate boundaries should be expended in their limits by the elected, authorities. ,
