RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAT. (Before H. 0. Lawxob. and E. W. PucKPT, Esqs., J.P's.) DBUNKKNUESS. Wm Harper was charged with having been drunk and incapable in Shortland Defendant pleaded guilty. Judgment reserved till a charge of a breach of the Vagrant Act preferred against him had been heard. BREACH OP VAGRANT ACT. Wm. Harper was charged with a breach of the above Act, he having been three limns convicted of drunkenness within the last twelve months. Defendant said he must plead guilty, but hoped the Bench would deal leniently with him. He was very sorry. The Bench said that there were no less than fourteen previous convictions against the accused for drunkenness ; he would have to be sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labor, and for the charge of drunkenness he would be fined 10s and costs, or 24 hours' imprisonment. PUBLIC HOUSE JIGHTS. John Winchcombe was i charged with having neglected to keep a light burning in front of his hotel on the 2nd and 3rd of July.^ Mr. Ehrenfried stated that there was a misunderstanding between him as landlord and the tenant. He as^landlord had endeavored to cause the lamp to be lit. The tenant was obstructive. The tenant had since left the. premises, and the offence would not occur again. ' The Bench under the circumstances dismissed the case. UNREGISTERED DOG. James Hamilton was charged with being the owner of a dog not duly registered. Defendant pleaded guilty. Fined 5s and costs. TBANSFETt OP LICENSE. William Murdock applied for the transfer of the license of the Thames Hotel to Frederick Tetley. ? _ Sergt. Elliott objected to the application, as he had-' not had sufficient time to properly examine the house; application refused till Saturday next. Court adjourned.
