AUCKLAND. Auckland, This day. At the .Police Court the charge of in-, cendiarism occupied all the morning. Three witnesses were examined to prove tbat no man ran round Shortland-stroet. Two deposed to finding the bundle. This clbsed the prosecution. The defence gave notice to recall the woman Gleeson. It is reported, that she has volunteered a statement to the defence that the bundle was made up subsequent to the fire by her at the request of a man who alleged he was instructed by Jeffreys. , In the Supreme Court Machattie applied for his discharge. He said proceedings with that object were commenced, five years ago, but never completed. No opposition. The Judge said he had forgotton what "stage Machattie's case reached.? He would, look into it. •
