THE MANUKAU.
The Manukau Company seem to be in earnest in carrying out the further development*of -their mine, ifi:outside preparations hare anything to do with it. On the piece of ground outside the Golden Crown battery the !Vf anukau proprietors are erecting one of the largest, and it will bey; when finished, one.of the best constructed hoppers on" the field, into which the quartz will :be tipped as it comes from the mine, ani as the hopper abuts on Golden Crown-street, it will give the Manukaui people' (the optionof employing any battery on the flat they may choose. ;Ih the. mine driving is being carried on to the south, and 14 feet more' have to be driven to communicate t^e drive with the shaft. There is a fine body of stone being carried along in the drive, of< the satne character as «iat cut in sinking the shaft at the north end of the; wbriingSi,' In the mine driving is also being vigorously carried on. The; lode is striking N.N.E.—a fair show of gold in the centre of the lode. As soon as the hopper is finished, it is expected that sufficient stone will be obtained to keep double the present crushing power; going. ; -■■■■'■■. ■;. V;--
