THE BRIGHT SMILE.
The manager reports that he has cut the No. 2 reef in driving south from the shaft. This reef was met with about 30 feet in, and is about 4 feet thick; from hanging to foot wall it is a well defined; compact body of stone, showing gold in the face. The new or shaft lode continues to be a strong body of quartz, about 2ft. 6in. thick; and has been driven on about 16ft. seaward ; and some good specimens were taken from it yesterday. On the No. 1 lode, driving west from the shaft, the reef ii . particularly strong and promising; it was a little broken when worked on. last at the upper level, but has settled down into a good sound reef; in a free working "country, which it cleaves cleanly, having a good hanging and foot wall. The manager's attention and time are so much taken up with the lodes noticed, that for the present nothing will be done on the lode running through the company's mine known as No. 3 ; that; is left for future working, when the workings from the present level are fully opened up.
