THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual weekly meeting of tho Council took place last evening at the Court House, Grahamstown. Present— t)r Kilgour (in the chair), Crs. Kennan, Eenshaw, Wilson and Ehrenfried. Mr F. C. Dean, Town Clerk. MINUTES AND COBEESPONDENCE. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, A petition was received from th« carters, to which thirty-four signatures were attached, praying that no person under the age of 17 years be allowed to drive a dray. It was decided not to entertain consideration of the petition until the Bye-laws had been passed. A letter was read regarding "the pur^ chase of land to Increase the area of the Shortland cemetery. Ordered to stand over. A letter was received asking for permission to break ground in Bella and Cochrane-streets for the purpose of laying water pipes. Permission granted on condition that proper lights be provided and other precautions against damage be adopted. An application from the Crown Prince Company to put in pegs and erect poppetheads was referred to the Works Committee, as was also an application from Mr James Macky askirg the Council to widen Bella-street fourteen feet. The report of the Overseer of Works, Mr. T. Rawdon, was received. Additional labor and extra culverts in Bealey-street were asked for. Kef erred to Works Committee. The Xuranui Company applied for permission to construct a tramway across the road to their coal yard. Permission granted, on condition that no objection was offered by Warden Fraser. VALUATION. The declarations of the two valuers were put in, and it was resolved that as soon as the valuation is completed they should receive their salaries. ACCOUNTS. A number of accounts for wages, &c, were ordered to be paid, and the Council adjourned.
