THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual weekly meeting of the Thames Borough Council was held last finight. There were present: Messrs Davies (Mayor), Eenshaw, Brown, Anthony, Wilson. Ehrenfried, Butt, Kennan, and Kilgour. MINUTES AND COBEE3PONDBNCE. The minutes of the previous meeting were , read and confirmed, after which some correspondence was read. COUNCIL AND PBOVINCIAL COUNCILLORS.
The Mayor said that, before proceeding with the business, he thought he should apologise to the Council for certain action which he had taken upon his own authority—tkat of inviting the Provincial Council representatives for the Thames to be present. It was, he apprehended, necessary that the Councillors should meet with the Provincial G overnment Members m order that they might discuss matters tending to the general welfare of the district. It would be necessary that the Government should be asked to apportion a certain share of the revenue in lieu of the sums which were formerly granted to the district under the control of road boards. The foreshore and water-works would also be matters requiring the attention of the representatives in parliament; and as the time before the opening of the session was limited, he had thought it was advisable to lose no time in making the views of the Council, as trustees of the public—known to those gentleman. Cr. Butt objected to the action taken by the Mayor as trifling with the business of the Council. Their time was most urgent, and they were asked to go before the members of the Provincial Council without a moment's warning. He thought th,ey should have a system of business laid down, and that it should be carried out according to parliamentary usage. Cr. Brown thought the remarks of Cr. Butt on the Mayor's acion quite uncalled for ; and that it was desirable to lay before the members the views of the Council. The time was short and the necessity urgent; . After some discussion on this point— Mr. Bagnall, M.P.C., said though it was perhaps unnecessary for him to take up their time, he might state that, as a member of the Provincial Council, he should be glad to receive the oflnions of the Councillors as to the requirements of the district. He was pleased that the Mayor had thought of them (the members) in the matter, as they would be enabled to accomplish more when united than they would if divided. -Should the Council furnish him with any memoranda; he would carry out their wishes to the best of his ability. • BOBOUGH OFFICIALS.
