A VINDICATION.
(To th« Editor of the Evening Star.) I have reada paragraph in this morni ing's paper, charging you with having copied into your columns items relative f to' the. loan to, be advanced to, the Pumping Associatioh. I,' ks your mining reporter, distinctly deny having used the Advertiser's columns as a guide to the information I furnished the 1 Star. I obtained the information I did furnish your paper with from a well authenticated source, but utterly; and entirely independent of the Advertiser. I decline to give my authority, except to yourself, it not being, I think, usual with reporters to disclose the sources of the information they may afford their principals. Suffice it to say.the Advertiser in this morning's paper publishes—well, a spade is a spade, and a lie cannot be called by any other name than what it is. . Whatever other papers may publish, the Star, at least, so tar aa I am concerned, has been furnished with news first-hand, and has been often copied by contemporaries. ,< .
