HELP APPRECIATED

Assistance Given 1 o Blind Deep gratitude for the courtesy, consideration and kindiy assistance given during the year to members ot the South Canterbury Social Club tor the Blind was expressed by a member of the committee, Mr F. King, at a Christmas party held in Timaru last night. He made special reference to the institute for the Blind and the Timaru Rotary Club. Among the guests at the function were the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P., Air W. L. Richards, representing the Mayor, and the chairman and secretary of the Christchurch Advisory Committee, Messrs sweeny and Woods respectively. They were welcomed by the president of the Club (Mr C. C. Lennon), who look the opportunity of thanking the Timaru Borough Council for issuing free permanent bus pickets to the blind, the Red Cross (particularly Miss E. Jones ami Mrs Chapman) lor providing transport, for the blind from their homes to the dub rooms. Mrs R, McAlister and other members of the r l imaru Townswomen's Guild for various services rendered, and the Borough Librarian (Miss A. K. Elliot) for her work in handling ami distributing “talking" books for the blind. Members of the club were first entertained at. a social gathering, during which Miss Aim Campbell sang two songs, accompanied by Miss Lillian MacDonald. They were then guests at. tea. which was followed by a programme of instrumental music.
