RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 18. About 30 horses will leave tonight for Wingatui, while others will travel to-morrow night, to start their holiday racing on Saturday. Some of them got through useful tasks this morning but there was not much in the way of serious trials. The two-year-old, Blue Trout, was not on the track. She sprinted three furlongs comfortably on Saturday, being all right when she pulled up, but later in the day she showed signs of soreness, apparently the result of giving her near fore fetlock a knock. She was much better on Sunday and she has continued to improve. Following a veterinary examination yesterday. F. A. Roberts will take her south when he leaves for Wingatui. L. J. Ellis left last night for Auckland, with Golden Souvenir and the three-year-old, Bruce. Ellis will ride his pair, and he has also been engaged for Deprive in the Railway Handicap T. H. Gillett will go north to-night with Miss Medley and Palfrey, who will be ridden in the Auckland Cup by C. M. JUlings and D. J. Thistoll respectively. With L. J. Ellis away at Auckland, his brother, A. S. Ellis will take Royal Rae south for his engagements at Wingatui, Waikouaiti and Oamaru. After riding at Wingatui on Saturday A. Messervy will fly to Auckland, where he is engaged for Chung Chong in the Cup and Verdant in the Railway Handicap, also for the three-year-Old, Dougal. C. B. Dawson has cancelled the trip of the two-year-old, Rahine, to Wingatui, as the Robin Goodfellow filly is shin sore. Nightcbild is sore and she will have a spell for a few weeks. All Quality is another of E. Rostwarne’s team who will be allowed to miss her holiday engagements.
