NAVY FOR CHINA

Surplus U.S. Ships WASHINGTON, December 17. The Navy Department has asked Congress for legislation permitting the President to transfer surplus warships to China. The Secretary for the Navyc fMr James V. Forrestal, stated that the national interest as well as considerations of good conscience required the United States to assist China to maintain a navy enabling a substantial contribution tow'ard maintaining peace in the Pacific.
