ACTION DEFERRED
Auckland Firemen Await Payment iN.Z.P.A.I AUCKLAND. Dec. 5 A decision to stay action for 24 hours on the ultimatum delivered at the start of the week to the effect that Auckland firemen would not accept relieving duty at out-stations or perform any work other th2n actual fire duties unless the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board assured them tonight that they would receive a relieving allowance of 2.’- a meal. was reached by members of the Aucklanc Fire Brigades Union to-night. Earliet in the evening the men decided tc adhere to their original decision bw the secretary of the Unon Mr J W A Stead who is also the Government nominee on the Board, said later that the decision was reached on additions information received. A special meeting of the men wacalled to-night to hear the Superm tendent, Mr W. L. Wilson, on the situation arising from the dispute ovei the meal allowance clause in the aware Mr Wilson read the legal interpretation of the clause which had been obtainc bv the board, and appealed to the mei not to precipitate trouble where there was a doubt about something. He pointed out that even if they had to wait some time for a ruling, if it were eventually found that extra money was coming to them it would be retro<oective. thus they would lose nothing by waiting.
