BABY ABANDONED

Found In Churchyard (N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. The body of a newly-born child was found to-night in an Auckland churchyard. The infant had been thrown there aoparently in an effort to dispose of it, but it was still alive when found. It is expected to live. Two residents of Epsom who were passing St. Andrew’s Church, Epsom, at 8.30 p.m. heard the cry of a child in the churchyard, which is divided from the road b.v a fence. On investigation they found a newly-born male child wrapped in newspaper and enclosed in a twine sack which was not tied up. Assistance was obtained from thi Rev. F. P. de L. Willis, of St. Andrew's vicarage and the infant was taken to Dr Keenan, of Mount Eden. It was found to be suffering from a leg injury, probably caused by a fall, but the opinion was expressed that the child would live. It has been removed to the Auckland hospital. The police are making efforts to trace the mother.
