DUTCH EVACUEES
Accommodation In Dunedin (N.Z.P.A.) DUNEDIN, Dec. 4. Details of a plan to bring 400 evacuees from the Dutch East Indies to Dunedin, and the possibility of this city being made the South Island headquarters of the scheme for the egre of the evacuees, were announced last night by Captain Johan Schoon, of the Dutch East Indian Army, who will be in charge of the Dutch evacuees to the South Island, who are due to arrive early next year. Captain Schoon has advised the Commissioner, in Australia of the -accommodation available in Dunedin, and of the great help that has been given by the Mayor in his efforts to find accommodation for about 400 refugees in Dunedin and neighbouring towns. The Commission, comprising Mr J. Pellekaan, Dr Panbuys (Dutch Consul in Wellingtopi. Colonel Van Tricht, of the Dutch East Indian Army and manager of the scheme for the North Island, has been so impressed with Captain Schoon’s description of the facilities offering in Dunedin that instead of terminating their tour in Christchurch they will arrive in Duneedin on Thursday morning and will leave again for the north on Friday. There is a possibility of using Littlebourne House, the late Sir John Roberts’ gift to the city, and also Larnach’s Castle, qn thp Qiaao Peninsula.
