PAMIR SURVIVES STORM

Gale Off Canada (9.25 p.m.) . ANCOUVER, Nov. 30. The New Zealand barque Pamir rec lied Vancouver after a terrific 10-hour fight against a 70 miles per hour gale off Cape Flattery on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, an historic death-trap for sailing ships. Magnificent seamanship by the captain and crew, heroic rescue efforts by a small tug and the fourmaster’s own superb qualities saved her from being dashed to pieces. The officers said that every sail must now be overhauled before the barque sails for New Zealand late in December with 3300 tons of Canadian wheat. The Pamir left Wellington on September 22. The New Zealand Government seized the Pamir from Finland during the war.
