AIR ACCIDENTS
Inquiry Refused LONDON, Nov. 28. The Under-Secretary for Air, Mr John Strachey, in the House of Commons, refused a public Inquiry into the recent air accidents in Transport Command after Sir Wavell Wakefield (Conservative, Wilts) had drawn attention to what he described as the great public anxiety regarding the number of accidents, and Mr Frank Bowles (Labour, Nuneaton) had requested a public inquiry. Mr Strachey gave an assurance that very active measures for diminishing the rate of accidents were at present under consideration. He said that 46 passengers and 15 members of crews had been killed, and 11 passengers and one member of the crews injured in NOvembei' in three accidents involving passenger-carrying aircraft of Transport Command. Mr Strachey told the House that the Meteor aircraft which had been taken without authority from Molesworth airfield on November 20 had not been traced.
