SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST

COOL AND SHOWERY Tlie following is the forecast for South Canterbury, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the period ending 5 p.m. to-day:— General Situation There is a deep depression south of New Zealand and an anti-cyclone over South Australia. Forecast Winds.—Moderate to fresh winds from a westerly quarter. Weather.—A few coastal showers, but weather mainly fair; moderate temperatures. Further Outlook.—Cool and showery. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rises at Timaru to-day 5.17 a.m.; sets 7.21 p.m. High water at Timaru to-day 0.44 a.m.; 1.5 p.m.

FINE DAY Yesterday was fine and sunny. Following are the records taken at Timaru Park for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday with the exception of the maximum temperature and sunshine for the day, which were taken at 7 p.m.:— Max. temperature in shade: 62.6. Min. temperature on grass: 29.6. Frost: 2.4 degrees. Wind: Nil. Rainfall: Nil. Rainfall to date this year: 29.48in5. Rainfall to date last year: 19.84in5. Sunshine: 9.2 hour's. Sunshine to date this year: 1554.5 hrs Sunshine to date last year: 1508.8 hrs IN OTHER CENTRES Temuka.— Yesterday was fine with an easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees and the minimum 29. Three degrees of frost were recorded. The glass was steady last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday).—Barometer, 29.3; thermometer, maximum 62.5, minimum 40; bright sunshine, 10 hours 6 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 68. Yesterday was mild and showery.
