LOADING OF STEAMER
Trouble At Auckland (N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. Work ceased on the Glen Line steamer Denbighshire this morning when the waterside workers who had been adopting a go slow policy for nearly a week, left the ship. Their action followed a special stop-work meeting of all members of the Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union. The chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission (Captain R. E. Price) and the Auckland Waterfront Controller (Mr W. J. Cuthbert) left for Wellington by plane. The national secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers Union, Mr T. Hill, and other representatives of the union and the Commission had a long session with the Deputy-Prime Minister (the Hon. W. Nash) in Wellington to-day. The Minister would make no comment after the meeting, but Mr Hill admitted that negotiations were being carried out, and said the union was doing its best to arrive at a satisfactory solution.
