BOXING CALTAUX BEATEN
Bout With Burns <7.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 14. Tommy Burns 10.61, welter champion of Queensland, scored an easy points win over Vic Caltaux 10.7 in a 12 round fight at the Melbourne Stadium last night. It was not an impressive bout. Burns had Caltaux in trouble by the sixth round, but he lacked the punching power to finish him off. Although Caltaux took a terrific hammering over the last six rounds and was buckling at the knees more than once, he came out of his corner strongly each time. Burns outboxed him and only Caltaux’s pluck kept him on liis feet. MURPHY WINS DECISIVELY (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 14. Bos Murphy, the Hutt Valley welterweight, greatly enhanced his reputation on Saturday afternoon by decisively beating Roy Stevens, the Auckland middle-weight, on points in a 10-round professional catchweight contest staged by the Hutt Valley Boxing Association in the open air on the Petone Recreation Ground. The enterprise of the Association in staging such an attraction for a purse of £2OO was rewarded by an attendance of about 5000. Stevens weighed 11/54 and Murnhy 10/44.
