CANADIAN GEESE

Protection Removed

A recommendation by the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society to have the protection removed from Canadian geese over the whole of the Society’s district will be given effect to, according to advice received yesterday by the Society’s secretary (Mr F. J.'Robertson). The necessary warrant has been signed by the. GovernorGeneral, and the regulations will be gazetted st an early date. Although at present confined to certain pcrticns of the South Canterbury district, the birds have been steadily increasing and extending their range. They are particularly plentiful in the Rangitat.a Gorge, and runholders in this area have been perturbed at the damage done by large flocks of geese both to crops and pastures.
