WAIMATE DAFFODIL SHOW

Attractive Display Annual Fixture Handicaps imposed by the weather failed to have much effect on the entries for the annual Daffodil Show, held in St. Paul’s Hall yesterday. The quality of the blooms was good. The champion bloom, an incomparabilis, was exhibited by Miss Barnett, of Morven. The championship in the children's section was awarded to Ronald Bailey’s exhibit. The show was opened by the Mayoress (Mrs W. F. Boland). The judges were: Daffodils, Mr M. Dick (Weston, Oamaru); decorative. Mrs Tait (Oamaru); cut blooms, Mr Tait (Oamaru).

The chairman. Mr W. Scarlett, who spoke also for the Returned Services’ Association, congratulated the men on their service and expressed the pleasure felt by residents of the district at their safe return. Mrs McGimpsey associated herself in the welcome on behalf of the Red Cross. The Waimate Savage Club contributed toward an enjoyable programme. A 'cello solo was given by Mr Dick (Waimate), songs by Mr A. Wheeler (Timaru), and Miss M. Baker, and a pianoforte solo by Mrs M. Hayman, who also acted as accompanist.
