Swimming Pool The contractor. Mr T. S. Gillies, is making good progress with the last section of the instruction pool that is being constructed in the grounds of the District High School. The plumbing is about completed, and plans are being made for a suitable function at an early date. Personal Consequent on a further vacancy in the secondary department of the District High School, the Education Board has recommended to the committee the appointment of Mr J. A. L. Bush, of the Main School. Timaru, as senior assistant. A former leader of the Southland No. 1 Boys Brigade Company, Signalman Ivan Fortune, of Invercargill, has readied Perth on the homeward Journey. This is the first news of him since the battle of the Coral Sea. Health Stamps The local Health Stamp Committee is greatly heartened by the splendid opening sales which exceed the corresponding figures for last year by a substantial amount. If the interest is maintained, the outcome of the campaign will be assured. A special talk was given to the school children on the origin of this movement and on the needs of the less fortunate children in the community. War Memorial The War Memorial Committee has received plans of the proposed amenities and memorial lounge which promise to become a real centre for a wide community. Tht forthcoming annual meeting of the School Association is to be addressed by Mr p. w. Rule, of Timaru, on the subject of community centres, a topic of wide interest to-day throughout New Zealand.
