British Policy Blamed

(7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 1. A mass meeting in Madison Square Garden, -onsored by the Zionist Emergency Council, sent a message to Lord Halifax declaring that the Jews will not continue to suffer British injustice silently. The British Government bears a great share of the responsibility for the Jewish tragedy in Europe. A cable was also sent to Mr Attlee expressing the deepest protest and indignation at continuing the policy of cruelty and betrayal displayed by the British Government toward the Jewish national home. The meeting demanded that Mr Attlee permit free, unrestricted immigration to Palestine, and establish Palestine as the Jewish Commonwealth. Mr F. H. La Guardia (Mayor of New York) said: “I would like to remind my good friend Lord Halifax who, in a speech to the American people, indicated that he wanted to borrow money for his Government, that the best way to establish credit is to convince the people that the borrower knows how to keen his word.” He added that President Truman should insist that Britain keep her pledges to Palestine and undertake immediate action necessary to solve the problem of in Europe.
