AMERICANS ENTER TIENTSIN
Disturbed Area TIENTSIN, Sept. 30. Americans entered Tientsin to liberate 29,0'i0 Allied captives, arrest war criminals, guard and care for 200,000 Japanese civilians and protect United States nationals and property. The Americans will watch 232,000 Chinese puppet troops between the ■ Yangtse River and the Great Wall, and disarm the Japanese. There has been little peace and security in North China since the I Japanese surrendered, reports the Associated Press correspondent in Tientsin. Pitched battles have occurred I in the last six weeks between Japanese J regulars supported by Chinese puppet | troops against units purportedly from the Communist Eighth Route Army. The Chungking correspondent of the j Associated Press says the Govern- j ment and Communist representatives, are reported to have agreed to retain the All-Party Political Council with j broad final powers for handling out- ; standing civil issues between the I Kuomintang and the Communists until a constitutional Government is initiated through the National Assembly.
